Hello celebrity, what’s your social media emergency and how can we help?
Lauren Beeching
How often do you get in trouble with your social media profile? Whether you’re a celebrity trying to do things by the book or building a name on social media for yourself, mistakes can happen.
A tweet, which if not thought through could land you in the sh*t and a photo you think is funny can leave a lasting negative impression if you’ve not thought about it properly. Before you know it you could find yourself in a snow storm and calling 999/911 wont quite cut it.
So how can you handle a social media emergency?
Stop and take a moment to pause and reflect on what’s just happened otherwise you could do more damage than good
If it’s tweet related, sometimes deleting could do the trick if you’re faster than your fans, but if it’s a lengthy dialogue, you’d need to think about a more considered approach if you’ve upset someone, or shared a personal opinion, which has created more damage than good even with the best of intentions
Remember that when you are in the public domain with a 1000 or 10M followers, you have a duty of care to be responsible. You may think you can get away with whatever you like, but you are in fact someone others look up to, so be mindful of what you’re saying and doing. Perhaps it’s time you add structure your channels and get some help managing it – thinking about what you want to post and when is crucial to help grow your audience as well as engage
Think about the longer-term goals now, where do you want to go from here? What are you comfortable with and how do you want to fix it?
Do you need a second opinion regularly, a quick fix or someone to act fast advice before you go live with anything? Perhaps you need a PR/Comms expert that you can get hold of to help 24/7?
