SEO: Website ending in .co.uk? Here's how you rank in USA

There are many reasons why a UK business may want to rank in the US. Here’s a few:

  • Can now deliver international

  • Potential clients live in America

  • Business has picked up and US customers are appearing

We have worked with brands who planned on creating a whole new website with .com at the end to help them rank in US. To an extent, of course that makes sense but it’s certainly not necessary.

With strong SEO work, you can easily rank high on US searches. Being transparent, we are a relatively small agency with a Squarespace website and .co.uk domain. We work with celebrities internationally and majority are in America, we of course want to rank there… And we do. There was no secret formula, it was approaching it the same way we do in the UK.

You need to make sure that your website is in a strong place SEO wise to begin with, are you ranking in the UK? If you’re struggling to get your .co.uk website to rank in the UK, you won’t rank in the US.

If you’re ranking well and are ready to face the US Google searches, start creating SEO rich landing pages with a focus on regional keywords. As an example, we’re opening an office in Sarasota, Florida and produced a landing page ready for when we cross the pond. We noticed this week that we’re already page one for ‘Social media agency Sarasota’.

How did this happen? Even we were surprised! It will be down to having strong social media backlinks and our website being set up to let Google know that’s what we do.

Basically, this is us telling you to not worry about a .com website unless you’re opening a physical store for example over there - there’s exceptions but overall if it’s to simply reach US traffic… Save your pennies on a website and work on your SEO.
