Social Media: The Instagram verification in-app form has changed

Finally, Instagram has made the very needed changes to its verification form. You can now paste up to three links to prove your worth for that mighty blue tick.

Now, will this transform the number of people getting verified? We doubt it. The form rarely brings success, and the best way to gain the tick is through an agency like us, Honest London. Nice to meet you.

Here’s a quick reminder on how you get to the form and apply:

First, Go to your profile and tap the hamburger icon in the top right corner

  1. Tap Settings

  2. Tap Account

  3. Tap Request Verification

  4. Fill in the application form.

  5. Tap Send.

When it comes to what links to use on the form, even though it's recommended, avoid using other social media platforms as your worth for verification. Maybe you're a hit on Tik Tok, LinkedIn or Twitter, which is lovely, but Instagram is unlikely to care.

You need to provide actual press, not blogs. Use links from publications like 'The Times' and 'CNN', not Sally's blog.

Remember, you need to be regularly searched on Instagram for consideration or have other accounts pretending to be you (don't get any ideas).

You can't fake what Instagram is looking for in an account to verify. So if you're not the right candidate, continue to keep making great content and working on press until you are.

The reality is, verification doesn't matter in most cases. If the only reason you want it is to look cool, you're probably not going to be considered.

Most of the time, verification is to help those who are regularly impersonated to help users searching find the correct account.
